If a pipe is placed in a liquid a back-pressure must be overcome before air can be blown through the pipe, The deeper the pipe in the liquid, the greater will be the pressure required. The pressure, which has to be overcome to press the liquid out of the pipe is hydro static pressure. The dosing equipment keeps the bubble pipe bubbling. Liquid should never enter the bubble pipe because it would cause a measurement error. The bubble pipe may also be referred to as an immersion or diving pipe. Bubble gauges are used if there is a lot of solid particles in the liquid (slurries) where normal pressure gauges would become clogged. They can also be used in a closed tank but a differential pressure gauge must then be used, as shown in figure
